Police Investigates Shauriyako Market Chaos

The police force has instituted investigations into the controversial takeover of Shauriyako Market by KCC-approved developers. Last month, an organization called the Nakivubo Shauriyako Market Vendors Association, fenced off the market saying they had the go-ahead to redevelop it. They presented a letter dated August 28th to the Kampala Central Division authorities, in which the Chief Town Planner, Charles Kyamanywa, gave them the green light to redevelop the market over the next 12 months. The Kampala Central Division chairperson, Godfrey Nyakaana, insists that the vendors association has no legal jurisdiction to redevelop Shauriyako Market. He maintains that the market will remain under his authority until the police investigations are concluded.
