Police in Kalungu district is investigating circumstances under which a 38-year old resident lost her life. The deceased identified as Beatrice Kabaana was found lying in a pool of blood with a cut neck, signifying that the death could have been an act of murder.

Residents say that Kabaana was alone in the house at the time of her death. Her three children had just returned to boarding school while her husband Emmy Kiyemba, a mechanic, was away for duty in Kampala. She was last seen on Wednesday.

One of Kabaana's colleagues had tried to reach her on phone for two days in vain, prompting her to visit her home on Saturday, where she was welcomed by a foul stench and a swarm of flies. It's at this moment that neighbours broke the locks and found Kabaana's decomposing body lying on her bed.

According to Kalungu District Police Commander Abrahams Tukundane Kabaana's neck was twisted and cut. He adds that the killers did not take any of the household items.

Preliminary investigations show that Kabaana had a longstanding land dispute with some of her own family members. Residents told Uganda Radio Network that Kabaana had reported a threat on her life, coming through anonymous calls.
