The poor state of roads in Lwengo district is hindering the distribution of relief supplies to families that were displaced by floods.

Relief supplies including 200 sacks of maize, 100 sacks of beans are still stuck as people in Luyiki, Lubanda, Kibubu, and Kabwami wait in vain for the supplies.

At least more than 3500 people were left homeless following the heavy storms that devastated their homes in Kiseka Sub County in Lwengo.

Gertrude Nakabira,  the Lwengo district Woman Member of Parliament, said on Sunday that supplies from the relief and disaster preparedness Ministry have not been distributed due to a poor road network.

Nakabira said the heavy rains have made the feeder roads impassable. The situation has been aggravated by narrow roads.

The district Chairperson George, William Mutabaazi, said the supplies will be ready for distribution on Tuesday.
