Prison Warders Kill Inmate

An inmate, who escaped form lawful custody at Kiboga government prison, has been shot dead by prison warders.

Charles Nangusha, the Kiboga District Prisons Commander, has identified the deceased as Twaha Ssekayombya, a resident of Nakasagazi village Kibiga sub-county Kiboga district.

Ssekayombya was remanded at Kiboga government prison on January 12th2011 for aggravated robbery. But on 15th April 2011, he escaped just as the inmates were being taken to work in the fields in Kapeke sub-county.

prison warders spent 10 days trailing Ssekayombya.  On Easter day, Ssekayombya was sighted and rounded up in Nakasagazi village. He however staged a tough resistance as he tried to fight off the warders.

One of the warders shot in the air to scare him, but instead the bullet cut through Ssekayombya’s stomach, killing him on the spot.
Muhangi Herbert, the Kiboga District Police commander says Police are investigating the circumstances under which Ssekayombya was shot.
The Post mortem report from Kiboga main hospital has confirmed that Ssekayombya was short in the Abdomen and died of excessive bleeding.
