Kajubi, who also served as Vice Chancellor at Nkumba University before retiring in 2008, died this morning at his home in Bugolobi, Kampala.

Samalie Kajubi, the deceased’s daughter told Uganda Radio Network that the 86 year old professor of education fell in the bathroom inside his house and died. The family is currently in a meeting to discuss burial arrangements.

In 2010, Makerere University immortalized Kajubi by erecting a Bust in recognition of the good work and contribution towards the development of Education in Uganda.

Kajubi served as Vice Chancellor at Makerere twice, twice from 1977 to 1979 and 1990 to 1993 before heading Nkumba University from 1994 to 2008.

Before that, Kajubi was director, National Institute of Teacher Education at Makerere from 1964 to 1977. He also served as Principal, Institute of Teacher Education, Kyambogo from 1987 to 1989.

Kajubi’s death comes just three weeks after that of another professor, George Wilberforce Kakoma, the composer of the national anthem. Ironically, it was Kajubi as chairperson of the committee on national symbols in 1962, who asked Kakoma to compose the anthem for the new nation which emerged winner.

The two scholars leave at a time Uganda is preparing to mark 50 years of independence in October this year.
