Members of the ruling National Resistance Movement-NRM party in Rubanda district are protesting the appointment of Rubanda East MP Henry Musasizi, as the interim NRM district chairperson.

Musasizi was appointed during a meeting held by NRM district councilors and sub county chairpersons among other members during a meeting held on July 1, 2016. On the same day, Rubanda district became operational.

However, a group of politicians and residents of Rubanda district condemned the appointment saying it's a ploy to give the legislator powers to influence the forthcoming party primaries and subsequent elections.

Jogoo Kenneth, one of those opposed to the decision, says the appointment gives Musasizi too much power. Similarly, Alex Muhirwe, a member of the NRM party says the criteria used to select the interim NRM Chairperson for the district is confusing since he was appointed without any form of competition.

John Bosco Tumwesigye, the Ikumba LCIII Chairperson told Uganda Radio Network that the decision was taken to ensure that the new district does not experience a power vacuum.

However, Henry Musasizi says persons challenging his appointment only want to throw the party into confusion.
