PSU Intervenes In Killing of Mobile Money Agent

The Police Professional Standards Unit- PSU has intervened in the murder of a mobile money agent in Kyenjojo district. 19-year-old Maureen Kanyunyuzi, a resident of Kaihura parish in Kyenjojo district was killed by unknown people two weeks ago.

 
Six suspects were picked up in connection to the killing and detained at Kyenjojo Police Station. However it later emerged that police was planning to release some of the suspects without charge following the disappearance of the case file.

 
The move drew angry reactions from the family of the deceased, prompting them to complaint to the Police Professional Standards Unit- PSU. On Tuesday, a team from the PSU headquarters in Kampala rushed to Kyenjojo on the orders of Kale Kayihura, the Inspector General of Police.

Tumushabe, who declined to disclose the identities of the suspects, said they include a boda boda cyclist and a friend to the deceased, her former employer who owns a lodge in Kaihura trading center and a former boyfriend, whose jacket was found at the crime scene.
 
 
It is alleged that while working at the lodge, Kanyunyuzi failed to account for Shillings 800,000 and was relived of her duty. According to Tumushabe, the former boss continued sending the deceased threatening messages, demanding that she refunds the missing money.
