Heavy rains have destroyed roads in Buikwe district forcing transporters to abandon some roads.

The rains have uprooted culverts and washed some of the bridges rendering the roads impassable. One of the affected sub counties is Najja Sub County where the roads from Najja to Buikwe district headquarters, Buikwe district to Mukono have been cut off.

Other affected sub counties include Buikwe and Kiyindi.

Most affected by the current state of roads are passengers from Lake Victoria like Buvuma, Dolwe and Bugaya.

Mathias Kigongo, the Buikwe district secretary for works, says the newly constructed culverts were washed away. He does not rule out the possibility that the culverts were shoddily placed.

Daniel Alinange, the UNRA spokesperson, says UNRA team has already been sent to assess the damage on the roads in Buikwe district.
