Hilary Onek says if donors fund chaos in the country, refugees from neighboring countries will not have a safe haven

The Minister for Relief, Disaster Preparedness and Refugees has asked international donors to support peace instead of supporting ideas or people that threaten the peace in the country.

Minister Hillary Onek made the remarks during the launch of the Education Response Plan for Refugees and Host Communities on Friday at the Office of the Prime Minister in Kampala. The launch of the plan was attended by several representatives of development agencies.

Onek requested donors to work towards maintaining peace in the country because refugees from within the region depend on the calm in Uganda to rebuild their lives.

According to Onek, if there that referees would have no where to go if there was peace in the country. Data from the Prime Minister's Office as of April 2018 estimates that 1.4 million refugees are currently living in Uganda.

Onek's remarks come days after President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni accused international players of repeatedly interfering in the internal affairs of other countries.

During the Nation address on Sunday, the President noted that there are NGOs in the country that are funded by foreign governments and also give money to opposition players."These foreigners may think that Africans are weak and foolish," said Museveni.

Some of the development partners that attended the launch include; Save the Children, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, United Kingdom Department for International Development, Education Cannot Wait, Finn Church Aid, Ecological Christian Organization, Oxfam and War Child Holland.
