Danny Kyazze has been described as calm, accommodative and humorous. Such was the persona of the legend with a legacy spanning over 50 years in the media industry. Aged 72, Kyazze succumbed to Bile duct cancer early today. 

The veteran best known as Mzee Kyazze was until recently a Luganda news anchor at Akaboozi, a local station owned by Finance Minister Maria Kiwanuka. Born on 14th February 1943, Danny Kyazze joined Akaboozi in 2001 after years of service with different TV and radio stations.

His legacy in the industry started in 1960s with Radio Uganda and then, Uganda Television-UTV where he spent 30 years. He also worked with WBS-Television in the recent past.

His son Danny Kyazze Junior said the legendary news anchor passed on this morning at Kadic hospital, Kampala after about five months of illness. He added that the remains of the fallen broadcaster will be taken to his home in Mackay zone-Nateete for vigil on Friday night, ahead of the burial expected to take place on Monday.

"We are waiting for other family members who are out of the country," Danny Kyazze Junior stated.

Finance Minister Maria Kiwanuka described Kyazze as an obedient, calm and accommodative man who was prolific time-keeper. Kyazze, who for over 10 years presented Bulletins at 6;00 a.m, was known for reporting to his duty station as early as 5;00 a.m. on a daily basis.

Anne Lydia Ssekandi, a former News Editor at Radio One, who worked with Kyazze for several years posted on social media; "A Broadcast Media Great has fallen! Rest in peace Mr Danny Kyazze, a man of great professionalism, a sunny personality, talented Luganda wordsmith and newscaster…"

In the same spirit, Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago described the death as Saddening and a blow to the Media Fraternity. "I have been saddened by the news of the death of the veteran journalist, Dan Kyazze. My heartfelt condolences to the entire media fraternity, relatives and all Ugandans," Lukwago's message read.

Julius Mucunguzi, a renowned communications professional praised Danny Kyazze for a ‘cool and calm' way of weaving words, giving his news reading style a great sense of understanding.

"Although I never got to meet him in person, I felt I knew Danny Kyazze so well personally… He had a cool and calm way of weaving words, he enabled even, I, a Mukiga who had trouble differentiating R and L to follow the news, even when I did not know the language…" Mucunguzi said in tribute to Kyazze.
