Residents of Makonzi village, Bukakata Sub County in Masaka district have demolished the house of an Imam, who was on Wednesday arrested in armed robbery.

The Imam, Saidi Baguma with his accomplices including Ramanthan Mugenyi and Denis Ndyanabo a security guard attached to Damascus Security Group, were arrested by the police in collaboration with Rapid Response Unit.

The residents say they are tired of leaders who set a bad example to their followers like the Imam did.

The detectives recovered one gun and 10 rounds of ammunition during the search.

The residents, most of them Muslims say they can not let the Imam go away after sinning during the month of Ramanthan. Since they do not condone impunity they want Baguma and his young brother, Ramanthan Mugenyi to be excommunicated from Makonzi village because of their unlawful action.

Lawrence Lutaaya, the LC1 chairman for Makonzi village confirmed the incident saying nothing could be done to stop the rowdy residents from demolishing Baguma’s house. He says that Baguma’s in-laws narrowly escaped the mob.

Lutaaya claims Baguma and his brother once threatened to kill him over land disputes.
He adds that Baguma wanted him to vacate his land over unknown reasons which puzzled him a lot.

According Joseph Lubega, the Bukakata Sub County Chairperson, Imam Baguma and his accomplices were fond of terrorizing residents within the area.

Lubega insists Baguma and his group attacked and badly assaulted Azeidi Kitaka, a prominent businessman before they robbed him of hard cash and other items.

Baguma has denied all accusations from the time he was arrested. He and the other two suspects are still being held at Masaka central police station.
