On Monday, Johnson Adupa, the spokesperson of Pentecostal Assembly of God-Lira Pastorate said they decided to consecrate Mukalo at night to avoid interference from security.

Reverend Joel Mukalo has finally been consecrated the Bishop of Pentecostal Assembly of God-Lira Pastorate, a breakaway faction of Pentecostal Assembly of God Uganda. Reverend Mukalo was consecrated on Friday night at Obanga-Pe-Wany PAG church in Central Division.

His consecration followed three days of fasting and prayers involving more than 30 pastors from the Pentecostal Assembly of God from Amolatar, Otuke, Alebtong, Lira and Dokolo districts. On Monday, Johnson Adupa, the spokesperson of Pentecostal Assembly of God-Lira Pastorate said they decided to consecrate Mukalo at night to avoid interference from security.

There is a standing court order barring the group from conducting any activities pending the conclusion of a case brought against the faction by the main PAG church. However, Adupa says their action is line with the law since their church is fully registered by the Registrar of Companies as Pentecostal Assembly of God Lira and mandated to operate throughout Uganda.

George Odongo, the Lira Resident District Commissioner describes Mukalo's enthronement as a joke and wondered why a whole Bishop can be consecrated at night if there is nothing wrong with what is being done. He has asked the group to be patient until court lifts the interim injunction barring Mukalo from conducting any church activities.

In March this year, Lira District Security Committee blocked Mukalo's enthronement saying it was illegal.  Trouble between Reverend Joel Mukalo and the Pentecostal Assembly of God Uganda started after he was kicked out on the orders of the overseer Bishop Franco Onaga for alleged financial impropriety, mismanagement of pastorate property such as vehicles and failure to steer the pastorate.

Mukalo refused to hand over office to an interim committee appointed by the national secretariat prompting Onaga to petition the Lira Chief Magistrate's court. Court issued temporary orders stopping Mukalo and a group of pastors allied to him from conducting any business on behalf of Lira PAG.

As a result, Mukalo teamed up with his supporters to start Lira P.A.G Limited.
