Head Teacher Arrested For Alleged Defilement

A head teacher at Kabaya Primary School in Muko Sub County, Rubanda District has been arrested for allegedly defiling a 15-year-old pupil at the school.

Forty-eight-year-old Michael Murangira is alleged to have invited the victim to his residence pretending that he wanted to send her for something at the nearby shop. After reaching his residence, the suspect turned and forced her to enter into his room from where defiled her.

According to the victim who is in primary six, the incident occurred on Tuesday at around 4pm. Murangira reportedly warned the victim against revealing any information concerning the act.
Jackline Muheki, the victim's mother says she became suspicious after her child returned from school late at around 7pm while crying. When she inquired, the victim revealed that she was defiled by the head teacher.

Muheki says she reported the matter to police on Wednesday morning as she got to know about the incident when it was already late.

Police led by Fred Wemunga, the Officer-in-charge of Karengyere Police Station arrested Murangira. The head teacher was arrested while on duty at the school.

Hebert Byaruhanga, the Muko Sub County Chairperson, condemns the act saying that this is the second incident to happen in less than two months. Byaruhanga says that Didas Karugaba, a teacher at Iremeera Primary School in Muko sub county allegedly defiled a 14 year-old-pupil at the same school.

Elly Maate, the Police Spokesperson for Kigezi Region says the suspect will appear in court to answer the charges of defilement after investigations into the matter are complete.
