Coach Tolbert Onyango's team have been placed in group C alongside England, Scotland and Argentina. After finishing 14th at the Dubai 7s last Saturday, the Rugby Cranes were expected to fly straight to South Africa on Monday.


" We have been handed another tough draw, but we are happy because this will give our team a good test ahead of the Commonwealth Games and World Cup next year," Ramzy Olinga, the Chief Executive Officer of the Uganda Rugby Union (URU) told URN.


Uganda will have the chance to revenge against Argentina who beat them last week in the semi finals of the 13th place classification match 26-7 in the Dubai 7s.


At the Dubai 7s Uganda lost to Wales 26-7 in a classification game to finish 14th after they had suffered defeat to South Africa 19-10, to Canada 22-17 and 29-14 to Kenya in the group stage. Uganda however managed a 17-12 win over Russia 17-12 in a classification game semi final.


In the draws for the Cape Town 7s released over the weekend, 2017 Dubai 7s champions South Africa have been placed in group A alongside Kenya, France and Russia. The other nations that will take part include; New Zealand, Australia, Spain, USA, Fiji, Samoa, Canada and Wales.
