One Killed in Rukiga NRM Campaigns

A sixty-year-old woman has been killed in a procession by candidates vying for the Rukiga district Woman MP NRM party ticket. The deceased has been identified as Lydia Kashemeire, a resident of Kyabuhangwa cell in Kyogo Parish in Kamwezi Sub County in Rukiga District.

Kashemeire was killed on Friday evening at Nyakanengo in Muhanga town council along Kabale-Ntungamo Highway when a Toyota Noah registration number UBA 225K that was carrying about fifteen supporters of Caroline Kamusiime Muhwezi lost control and hit a Bajaj motorcycle registration number  UDX 157S she was riding on.

  
The rider survived with injuries and was rushed to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital in critical condition. Kamusiime and her supporters were heading to Nyeikunama playground in Muhanga trading center for a joint candidate's rally.

Kamusiime declined to speak to journalists about the incident. Those vying for the Rukiga Woman MP NRM party ticket include Victoria Abigail Atukunda, Maureen Kyarisiima, Pamela Kyomugisha Kihumuro and Charity Twongeirwe Ainebyoona, Alice Basobokwe and Caroline Kamusiime Muwhezi.

While those contesting for the NRM party ticket for the LC V Chairperson Seat are Willy Nkwasiibwe, Dr. Alexander Kampikaho and Jackson Asiimwe Rwamwehare. The candidates will wind up their campaigns later today ahead of the primary elections on August 22. 

The main elections will take place on September 21.
