Rukungiri LC 3 Candidate Disqualified

Barely a few days to sub county polls, Electoral Commission has disqualified Alisen Sebagyenzi, the National Resistance Movement-NRM party candidate for Nyarushanje sub county LC 3 chairperson seat in Rukungiri district.

Pius Ahimbisibwe, the Rukungiri District Returning Officer, says Sebagyenzi was disqualified for being above the mandatory 75 years of age. According to Ahimbisibwe, those contesting for LC 3 chairperson must be between 35 and 75 years of age.
 
He however, says Sebagyenzi is now 79 years, which automatically disqualifies him from the race. Sebagyenzi was born in April 1936. He says a section of voters he didn't disclose, challenged Sebagyenzi's candidature, which left his Forum for Democratic Change-FDC party rival, Michael Asiimwe remain unopposed.
 
Sebagyenzi has been the Nyarushanje sub county LC 3 chairperson since 1996. The elections for sub county LC 3 chairpersons, directly elected and female councilors across the councilor are set for March 9th 2016.
