Russian National Fined for Assaulting Ugandan Journalist

A Russian national was on Wednesday fined 200,000 shilling by Mukono grade 1 magistrate Ruth Nabaasa for assaulting a Journalist and maliciously damaging his property.
Olga Atubo, wife to Sam Akwech Atubo, son of Lands minister, Omara Atubo allegedly assaulted Paddy Nsobya, a journalist working with the new vision.
She allegedly committed the offence on April 14, 2011 at Seeta trading centre.
Court heard that it all started on Thursday last week, when police arrested Olga for drunkenness.  She was arrested while driving a Benz registration number 910M, in the company of a one Tumusiime. They were heading to Jinja.
But on realizing that Tumusiime was too drunk, to drive, the two decided to park the car and Olga opted to take a taxi, leaving Tumussime in the Benz.
A passerby however got concerned and alerted the police thinking that the man left behind in the Benz was drugged. The journalist turned up and started taking pictures, to Olga’s chagrin.
She pounced on the journalist and beat him up. She tore up his clothes and damaged his camera.
Olga was arrested and taken to Mukono Grade one magistrate’s court.
Being a first offender court decided to fine her 200,000 shillings and asked her to pay for the damages she caused to the Journalist.
