Jonan Atuhura who was last week sacked as principal private secretary to the King of Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom is being held at the Hoima central police station following his arrest on Sunday evening.

Julius Hakiza, the Albertine regional police public relations officer, has confirmed the arrest but says he is not in position to give details as he's in Kampala for a training.

Police Flying Squad picked up Atuhura from his home in Kihomboza village, about four kilometres from Hoima, after several hours of searching inside his house.

A source from the Flying Squad that preferred anonymity says Atuhura has been arrested for alleged abuse of office, forgery and false utterance of documents with intent to defraud the kingdom.

Police impounded his car a Toyota Premio registration number UAW 315F as one of the property for which he's to be investigated. Also picked were a laptop and a number of vital documents from the house.

A police source says Atuhura's arrest was prompted by questionable  wealth. The source revealed that in just a short time, Atuhura had built a house worth about Shillings 100 million, bought three vehicles, land and other valuable assets.

Atuhura's arrest also left George Niyonzima, a journalist attached to Vision Group injured after family members attacked journalists covering the event. He is currently admitted at the Kabalega Medical Centre in Hoima town nursing wounds after being stoned by one of the family members.

Niyonzima says he will report a case of assault at police.

Atuhura has been the principal private secretary to Omukama Solomon Gafabusa Iguru for three years. He was sacked just a day after he announced that the Omukama had reshuffled the kingdom cabinet. The reshuffle was, however, denounced by the Kingdom Prime Minister, Norman Lukumu, who said the list was just an internal memo meant for further discussion.

Lukumu then called for thorough investigations by the security agencies.

By the time of his arrest, Atuhura had been replaced by Prince Richard Kitehimbwa as Principal Private Secretary to the King.
