Uganda Premier League side, SC Villa today signed a UGX1.3 billion five year contract with Chinese Pay TV, StarTimes Limited.


The deal was signed by StarTimes Marketing Director, Aldrine Nsubuga Snr and SC Villa President Emmanuel Misagga at Villa Park, Nsambya. "We are happy to be associating with the biggest club in Ugandan football," said Nsubuga in-front of over 300 SC Villa fans who attended the ceremony.


Charles Bakkabulindi, the State Minister for Sports was the chief guest at the function where he also presented a team bus bought for the club by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.


"We are happy to announce that effective today StarTimes will be sponsoring SC Villa  to a tune of UGX1.6 billion for the next five years," said Nsubuga. He explained that the contract will see StarTimes promote SC Villa matches, provide replica jerseys to fans for all home games, jointly activate fans branches across the country, motivate the players with prizes for outstanding performance and also promote the club brand.


The Club President welcomed StarTimes for coming on board to sponsor a big club like SC Villa. "The players salaries will now be cleared for the next five years," added Misagga whose club will represent Uganda in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Confederations Cup next year.


Nsubuga said with over 600,000 subscribers StarTimes is the leading pay television in Uganda. "The SC Villa officials, players and fans have a responsibility to promote our brand and protect our image as brand ambassadors," added the Marketing Director.


Last year StarTimes also signed a deal with another Uganda Premier League side KCCA FC. Nsubuga said they will soon be announcing the launch of the StarTimes football Academy with former Nigerian International Nwanko Kanu as it's ambassador.
