SC Vipers Stop Onduparaka FC To Lift Uganda Cup Top story

Sports Club Vipers have stopped Arua based Onduparaka 3-1 to lift the 2016 Uganda Cup in the final played at Nakivubo Stadium on Saturday.

The team handled by George Nsimbe have now qualified to represent Uganda in the 2017 CAF Confederations Cup.

Midfielder Puis Wangi netted a brace, while Erisa Ssekisambu netted the other for SC Vipers. Gadaffi Wahabu scored for the Arua District based team.

Ssekisambu scored the opening goal after 15 minutes, while Wangi made it 2-0 on 30 minutes. After the interval Wahabu pulled one back for Onduparaka FC after curving in a free kick. Wangi put the game beyond Onduparaka's reach with the third goal in the 60th minute.

"We are glad that after working hard we have lifted our first Uganda Cup trophy and will represent Uganda in continental football next year," said SC Vipers coach Nsimbe.

SC Vipers who lifted the Uganda League trophy in the 2014/2015 title finished second this year and failed to go past the first round of the CAF Champions League.

Onduparaka FC skipper Muhammed Shaban who finished the tournament with seven goals like Ssekisambu said although they lost it has been a good season. "We managed to qualify for the top Uganda League and now lost in the Uganda Cup final," he added.

KCCA FC who won the Uganda League trophy will represent the country in the CAF Champions League.
