As a result of financial woes the Uganda Badminton Association has only managed to promote a single player capable of competing at the international level. Ekiring is the highest ranking Ugandan badminton player and second in Africa. He is the first badminton player to have represented Uganda in the Olympics after getting a wild card to the Beijing Olympic in August this year. The Chief Executive officer of the Uganda Badminton Association Simon Mugabi says that the limited finances have worked against their will. According to Mugabi only 30 million shillings is budgeted for the federation activities, the biggest portion being spent on organizing events and manage a technical development programme. Mugabi says they plan for a modest budget to attract sponsors and also receive support from the Badminton Confederation of Africa. "Cue in: That is about 30 million#" "Cue out: #that is out." Mugabi says Ritah Namusisi has dominated the badminton sport for several years because fewer females are interested. "Cue in: As you know #" "Cue out: #sports department now." According to Mugabi youngsters Wilson Tukire and Brian Ssuuna as well as Ndejje University's Nankabirwa Mega are undergoing training in Mauritius ahead of the 2012 London Olympic Games.
