School Director Held Over Death of Pupil

Gregory Otai, the Director of Divine Hope Academy in Pallisa district is in trouble over the death of a pupil at his school. Otai was picked up by Police on Wednesday evening together with the school matron Florence Asio.

They are wanted in connection with the death of 9-year-old Michael Mbabazi. Godes Twinamasiko, the Officer in charge of Criminal Intelligence and Investigations Department Pallisa Central Police Station says Mbabazi drowned in a well that is 35 meters deep while drawing water in a ten liter jerrycan.
He says the minor drowned in the well after he was pulled by the weight of the water jerrycan. Twinamasiko says the matron will be charged with negligence. He didn't specify the charges they will prefer against the director.
Martha Akwalinga, the head teacher Divine Hope Academy says they found Mbabazi's body in the well after the matron informed her that the pupil had gone missing since morning.

As a result of the incident, John Francis Okuma, the Pallisa District Education Officer has ordered the closure of the school until Monday next week. 

The parents of the minor have not yet commented as they couldn't be reached by our reporter by the time of filing this story.
