The police in Gulu say they have arrested a second suspect in connection to the shooting of the Gulu University lecturer Andrew Rachkara. Rachkara was shot dead on June 14.

Patrick Jimmy Okema, the Aswa regional police spokesperson, says the suspect was arrested on Sunday evening from the Uganda –Sudan border point following an investigation that was ongoing.

Unidentified gunmen shot dead Andrew Rachkara, a lecturer at the Faculty of Business and Development studies at Gulu University, from his home. Rachkara was returning to his residence in Pece division from watching the ongoing World cup.

The arrest brings the number of the suspects arrested in connection to the murder of the Gulu University lecturer to two after another suspect was arrested last week.

Okema however says the identity of the two suspects will still not be revealed as investigations are ongoing. It has been established, though, that they all hail from the Acholi sub region.

Okema says that the police and Gulu security committee will be able to come up with a detailed report on the death of the lecturer. During Rachkara's burial, different leaders where tasked by mourners to investigate the case of the deceased lecturer and bring the culprits to book.

Since May, Gulu has been on a high alert following a spate of armed robberies. 11 people have been arrested and four others critically injured in connection to the armed robberies, while 9 motorbikes have been recovered in a crackdown to curb armed attacks in the region.

The Gulu RDC Catherine Lamwaka who also heads the district security committee states that they will not rest until the suspects are all arrested. She says that so far both the Gulu and national security team are helping in investigating the matter adding that they are getting the leads to the killers of the lecturer.
