Night patrols have been stepped up in Masindi town, in response to the rising cases of crime.
Crime rate has gone high targeting mainly the boda boda cyclists. Boda boda cyclists have in the recent past been killed or injured by gunmen posing as passengers.
No one has been arrested in connection with the new wave of crime, which has sent a wave of shock among residents of Masindi town.
Alex Twebaze, the district police commander, says the patrol units will be on surveillance to monitor suspected criminal activity in the town.
Mugisha Muhwezi, the Resident District Commissioner, has also ordered for the formation of security committees at every boda boda stage.
The Boda boda stage security committees have been charged with the responsibility of trying to verify the status of passengers before they hire boda boda services.
Under the new measures, any boda boda cyclist taking a passenger will be required to notify a member of the security committee about his destinations.
Police have also ordered cyclists to stop operating past midnight and to shun any passenger who requires to be taken to unsuspicious destinations.
The cyclists however expressed dissatisfaction about the way police responds to cases. They argued that it has become illogical to take a suspect only to be released with no case.
