Jinja Police are investigating circumstances under, which a Uganda People's Defense Forces-UPDF soldier shot four people in a pub last night before turning the gun on himself. Felix Mugizi, the Jinja District Police Commander, identifies the soldier as Private Stephen Ajuna.

His victims are Olivia Nalubega, Moses Dolly, Grace Nakimera and a one Frank. Mugizi suspects that the soldier acted under influence of alcohol. He says the injured are receiving treatment at Jinja Regional Referral Hospital. He also says they recovered four magazines of ammunition and a gun from the scene.

Preliminary information shows that Ajuna stormed Amber coat market at around 9:30pm following a misunderstanding with wife to track down her friend with intentions of killing her. However, on failing to locate the friend of his wife, Ajuna who was attached to Gaddafi barracks turned his gun on the patrons.

"The soldier came asking for Mama Kayanja in the bar but it seems he didn't know the person he was looking for. When he entered the bar, he started shooting indiscriminately. He then shot himself," said Samuel Wangu Nangabo, the head of security at Amber coat market.

The incident comes about two weeks after another UPDF soldier shot dead seven people and injured several others before taking his own life following a domestic brawl with his wife. Sergeant Isaac Obua ran amok on June 16th and shot dead four women and three children before he was also killed by another soldier.
