Soroti district leaders spent Thursday afternoon doing general cleaning in the town and referral hospital ahead of President Yoweri Museveni’s visit today.

The leaders appeared to be in a panic mode as if they were not prepared for the President’s visit.

Museveni is expected in Soroti to launch the universal mosquito net distribution exercise.

District leaders including the LC5 Chairperson George Michael Egunyu were seen doing general cleaning around Soroti town, Soroti Referral Hospital and at the district offices.

Soroti hospital had for weeks been stuck with garbage after the Municipal garbage truck broke down. Being one of the places the President is expected to visit, the leaders did not want to be caught off-guard. They brought in the services of inmates from Soroti government prison to conduct a massive cleaning exercise in the hospital.

The government is expected to distribute over 500,000 treated mosquito nets to Soroti district.

Martin Amodoi, the district health inspector, told URN that so far they have received a total of 225 bales or 9,000 mosquito nets for the launch exercise. Amodoi noted that the first batch of nets will be given to Western Division in Soroti Municipality.

George Michael Soroti district Chairperson told URN that as district authorities they were doing their best to make the occasion a success.
