A student has committed suicide in Butansi village, Kamuli district, after learning his father will not be able to pay for him school fees. He had been informed by his father the previous day that he would not be able to pay his fees the previous day.
The Kamuli Progressive Academy student was found hanging on a Mango tree in his father's compound this morning.
Waiswa Alibirwa (18) had been informed by his father Khalid Isiko the previous day that he would not be able to pay the 89, 000 shillings tuition he owed his school.
Butansi village LC 1 Chairman Jacob Kyerekyizibu says the deceased had had a troubled relationship with his father ever since his parents separated. His father subsequently married another woman.
Kyerekyizibu says that nonetheless Alibirwa has been performing well in class since his Senior One.
The district police commander Kamuli Abraham Byegyezaho says Alibirwa's body is still lying at Kamuli main hospital awaiting a post mortem report.
