Pay TV DSTV through their Super Sport channel have given the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) and the Uganda Super League Limited (USLL) an ultimatum which runs out June 30, to sort out their differences over the national League.
A well informed source that did not want to be mentioned told URN that the South African based Pay TV is tired of the on-going wrangles over who should run the League in Uganda. Super Sport has a running contract with USSL which has been hanging in balance ever since the FUFA Assembly withdrew USSL’s rights to run Uganda’s top flight league.
The FA and the Uganda Super League Ltd led by their chairman Kavuma Kabenge have been in talks since October last year to try and end the football wrangles. The two parties even went ahead to sign a MOU, but again disagreed after two weeks.
The source told URN that the sponsors who still have two years on the contract are determined to call off the deal if nothing positive is decided by June 30. He reasoned that Super Sport have always been ready to have the League matches live on their platform, but USSL and Fufa have failed to agree and provide the platform.
When contacted, USSL Chairman Kabenge who admitted having knowledge of the ultimatum told URN that there is no way that deadline of June 30th can be beaten. He said as USSL they have already played their part by providing Fufa with what they think can work since they are the ones who signed the contract with Super Sport. The former Express FC boss said it is unfortunate football leaders in the country are the ones who have messed up their own product which has a big sponsor.
He also blamed the government for being part of the problem in having football managed well in the country. Moses Magogo, the FUFA President who refused speaking about an ultimatum also told URN that they are hopeful a solution will be found soon. He however said that they already signed an agreement with USSL and hope that the USSL leadership can stand by it.
