Police in Kampala are hunting for suspected thugs who on Thursday morning raided the Pioneer Easy Bus headquarters in Bugolobi, a Kampala suburb.

The reportedly broke into the offices at around 1AM and wrestled the security guard before tying him up with ropes.
They then made off with petty cash totaling to two million shillings and company documents which they threw away at a near-by trash can.

The money was being kept in a safe at the offices to be used by staff the next day.

The robbery has alerted the bus management who have now pledged to increase security on their premises.

Connie Nankya, the bus company’s public relations officer, said they had recovered the company documents but declined to give the name of the security guard who was on duty. She only identified him as a member of the Security Group, one of the various security companies around the city.

Jinja road police commander Andrew Kaggwa said no arrests had been made as yet but the police have launched investigations into the robbery.

Pioneer Easy Bus started operations on March 12 this year during a strike by taxi operators.  The company delayed to hit the road following delays over unpaid taxes, lack of bus lanes in the city, quarrels between top officials of Kampala Capital City Authority and disagreements with the ministry of transport officials.
