Emmanuel Banya, the Town Clerk Soroti Municipality, says the impounded vehicles were found loading along Soroti-Lira high way near Soroti Regional Referral Hospital while others were waiting their time to take off.

Taxi and truck operators have clashed with Soroti municipal council officials for impounding their vehicles for operating in none gazzetted areas.
The vehicles were impounded this afternoon by law enforcement officers in an attempt to create order in Soroti town.

The affected taxis and trucks ply the Soroti-Lira-Dokolo and Kaberamaido routes.  Emmanuel Banya, the Town Clerk Soroti Municipality, says the impounded vehicles were found loading along Soroti-Lira high way near Soroti Regional Referral Hospital while others were waiting their time to take off.

The impounding of the vehicles comes a month after Soroti Municipality issued a circular prohibiting roadside loading of goods and passengers.

Michael Okiror, a driver of canter truck registration number UAU 641T, says they were not informed of the circular prohibiting roadside loading and parking.

Okiror wants the municipality authorities to pardon him, saying this is the first time he is finding himself in such a mess. Michael Epiru, a driver of a Noah vehicle, says the municipality should have warned them before impounding their vehicles.

But Emmanuel Banya, the Town Clerk Soroti Municipality, says the operators were given sufficient warning.
