Teso MPs Demand Accountability for Road Works Budget

The Teso Parliamentary Group wants Government to investigate the circumstances under which the works ministry spent 1.2 billion shillings meant for emergency road repairs, in the flood ravaged areas of north and northeastern. Last year, government allocated 1.2 billion shillings to the Ministry of Works to carryout emergency repair of roads and bridges which were washed away by floods in Teso, Lango and Acholi sub region. The money was part of the 22 billion shillings budget released by government under the emergency funding for the reconstruction of flood ravaged areas. But the delay in the implementation of road repairs has sparked off concern among the Teso legislators. John Otekat Emily, the Serere County Member of Parliament, says the ministry of works has done nothing on the affected roads and bridges in the past seven months despite receiving emergency funding.
