Testing for HIV status can be a scary experience but for Mutyaba Ivan 27, the test changed his life for better. Mutyabe thought his life had ended when his girlfriend, a school girl fell sick, was diagonized and later died of HIV/AIDS related complications at Mulago Hospital. He had decided to behave as recklessly as he could since he tought himself as the next victim. // Cue in: i So i had... Cue out:...am to die.i Mutyaba was initially convinced by a team of women counsellors from Mulago Hospital to take a free HIV/AIDS testing, which turned out negative. His second test was done this week during the Kampala HIV/AIDS awareness and testing Week, currently ongoing at City Square. It has also turned out negative. The coordinator of the Kampala HIV/AIDS awareness and testing Week, Ziraba Emanuel, says people's perceptions towards HIV testing are still low. He says, out of the three free staged testing centres in Kisenyi, Katanga and at the City Square, the turn up over the last four days stands at only 2000 people. The climax of the awareness and testing week will be the commemoration of the International World AIDS day on 1 December at Lugogo Indoor stadium.
