Three Dead, 16 Injured In Masaka Road Accident

Three people died and 16 others sustained serious injuries in a road accident on Masaka-Mbarara highway on Sunday evening.

The dead include a Radio One news anchor, Henry Ssemwanga. The accident which occurred at about 6:30pm also left a 3year old girl and her mother dead. The accident occurred at Kabalungi village in Lwengo district when a mini bus registration UAJ 181B had a head-on collision with an Ipsum saloon registration number UAM 941S.

The mini bus, carrying 14 passengers including Henry Ssemwanga, was heading to Kampala from a wedding in Kanungu district.

Andrew Muyambi, the district traffic officer said that the mini bus swerved in the road due to over-speeding and it had a head on collision with an Ipsum saloon car which was coming from Masaka side. The officer had not yet established the identities of the deceased woman and the child.

The sixteen people who sustained serious injuries are being admitted at Kitovu hospital in critical condition. These include George Lwebusa a photographer, Benon Kwikiriza a teacher at Kanungu S.S.S, Anna Kagurusi, Alice Natasha, Kerementina Bakasiima from Kanungu, Steven Muwanika of Nagulu Kampala, Reagan Kwijuka of Entebbe, Scovia Nambi of Mpigi and Martin Mugagga from Kabonera village in Masaka, among others.
