Police in Kagadi District are holding three people for allegedly bribing voters just hours before voting kicked off in the newly-created district today.
  
Peter Lameck Onguwar, the Kagadi District Police Commander who declined to reveal the identities of the suspects, says the trio was arrested on Sunday night while distributing items like sugar, salt, soap and cooking oil. These, Onguwar says, were being distributed in areas of Kitehe, Kyema and Bwikara in Buyaga West.
  
Police say they acted on a tip-off from concerned residents. The suspects are currently being held at Kagadi police station pending further investigations. Onguwar says they will be charged with voter bribery.
  
Meanwhile in Kakumiro, also a new district, voting has started with a high voter turn up in different areas of the district.
  
Joseph Nsereko, an election observer from Kisiita says voting started nearly 30 minutes past the mandatory 7am because of the distances from the sub counties to the various polling stations.
  
Macklin Nakyanzi, the Kakumiro Town Council elections supervisor says polling kicked off well. There are 189 polling stations in Kakumiro District.
  
The Local Council 5 chairperson seat has attracted two candidates, Joseph Ssentayi of the ruling NRM party and Gerald Ssemanda Apuuli on Independent ticket.
  
In Kibaale district, Noeline Kisembo Basemera of NRM is fighting against FDC's Proscovia Kunihira for the woman Member of Parliament seat. The seat fell vacant after Robinah Nabbanja opted to represent the newly created Kakumoro district.
 
In Kagadi district, there is a tight race between NRM's Steven Fashingabo Byaruhanga, Yosia Ndibwami an Indepebndent candidate and Peter Byahangirwe of FDC party for the LC5 Chairperson seat.
  
It is a two-horse race for the woman Member of Parliament seat as Jenipher Mbabazi of NRM takes on FDC's Margaret Naziwa.
  
Voting is taking place in Kagadi, Kakumiro, Rubanda and Omoro districts.
  
Eng Badru Kigundu, the Electoral Commision Chairperson who is Kakumiro to oversee the whole exercise, told URN that the team will deliver a free and fair election.
