Tight Security In Bukanga as Campaigns Kick Off

Official campaigns for Bukanga County Bi-elections have kicked off today; amid tight security as tempers flare among the two main rival camps.

The race has attracted seven candidates.  Fierce rivalry is between Former MP Nathan Byanyima, contesting as an independent candidate and the NRM flag bearer Stephen Kangwagye.

Byanyima lost to Kangwagye in the controversial NRM party primaries.

Also in the race is Jackline Matovu, daughter of the deceased Bukanga County MP Gregory Matovu Contesting as an independent candidate. Her father, in 2011 NRM party primaries defeated the three-time area MP Nathan Byanyima.

Others are Jeremiah Birungyi Kamurari, Pastor Abel Tumusiime and FDC’s Tito Turiyo

Isingiro District Registrar Robert Twikirize says a meeting was held with all the candidates last evening at the district headquarters and a campaign schedule that is agreeable to all dully developed.

Jeremiah Birungyi Kamurari is launching his campaign in Rushasha Sub County. The NRM flag bearer Steven Kangwagye will launch his campaigns in Mbare Sub County WHILE Nathan Byanyima begins in Kashumba.

Jackline Matovu will start from Rugaaga Sub County while FDC’s Tito Turiyo will launch his campaigns in Ngarama and Pastor Abel Tumusiime in Nakivale.

Electoral Commission chairperson Badru Kiggundu is overseeing the ten-day campaign exercise that will close on 24th November. Elections are set for 26th November 2013.

The Isingiro district police commander Kenneth Muheirwe says police has deployed across the constituency to avail security to all the seven candidates.
