Security in and around entertainment places in Kitgum town has been tightened ahead of tonight’s new year celebrations dubbed “Celebration of Two Years.”

Several entertainment spots have hired police, army and private security guards to man the security.

At new Acholi Pub, the biggest night disco spot in the town, the management has deployed more than 15 policemen to protect the revelers. Benson Ocan, the director of New Acholi Pub, says as has always been in previous years, they have boosted the security to ensure that revelers have adequate protection. Ocan has appealed to the customers to cooperate with the police to isolate wrong people who may want to commit crime.

Priscilla Aloo, the manager of Bomah Hotel, says the management there has employed police, army and private guards to man the gates and the premises.  Aloo says the security at the gate will be tight and has appealed to the locals to adhere to the strict security measures in place to safe guard their lives.

The manager says with such security in place, customers are assured of protection.

Kitgum district police commander, Nasur Oringa says the police force has received the fireworks from the headquarters, ready for display. Oringa however warns revelers not to rush too close to the explosives as they are very dangerous to human lives. He says some fireworks remain unexploded and such can harm those close to them.

Oringa also says police has provided extra security in and around the town. He has urged the population to be on the look-out for wrong elements within the society.
