A strike by cleaners at Tororo regional referral hospital that started last week has entered its seventh day.

Cleaners at the hospital laid down their tools on Thursday, May 30th over unpaid wages. The workers complain that they have not been paid for three months now.

Each cleaner in the ward is paid 45,000 shillings per month while those who clean the environs of the hospital receive 40,000 shillings.

With the workers on strike, sanitation at the hospital has plunged to new lows. Garbage and flowing sewage have started to creep throughout the medical facility.

Our reporter managed to take some photos of the hospital where caretakers of patients have sometimes been forced to clean the wards.

In a related development, staff of Fort Portal regional hospital have also resumed a strike over delayed wages.
