Tororo Incumbent Mayor Loses Seat to Accountant

Jack Ogolla, the incumbent mayor for Tororo municipality has lost his re-election bid to Geoffrey Emokol Opua.


Jack Ogolla who has been Tororo municipality mayor since 2001 contested on the independent ticket.


Emokol polled 4,458 votes (43.67%) against the incumbent's only 628 votes representing (6.13%).


John Opio, the NRM's flag bearer in the race came close in the second position with 4,211 votes representing (41.25%).


Emokol is a retired accountant at Tororo District local government, while his closest challenger John Opio of NRM is the former L3 Chairperson of the Western Division of Tororo Municipality.


The other independent candidates- Mike Ogena of Lavender clinic in Tororo town came fourth with 584 votes, Alecho Israel Ochwo polled 232 votes and Odida Andrew trailed with 98 votes.


Shortly after the results wee declared, Tororo ran wild with celebrations accompanied by blaring music being heard all through the night.
