Fire Guts Shops in Kasese Town

More than seven shops have been destroyed in a morning fire that gutted food stores in Kasese town.

The burnt building located on plot 6, Speke Street belongs to the family of the late Abbas Ruhamire.

The fire left more than 50 traders counting losses. Robert Kalista, one of the traders says that all their merchandise which included among others sacks of groundnuts, beans and millet flour was burnt. He says the fire started at about 9:30am.

It was contained by the fire brigade unit which arrived at the scene about 45 minutes later.

Richard Turyasingura the in- charge Fire Brigade Operations said the fire might have resulted from loose power connections. He explains that since there was no power in the night, when power returned in the morning, it caused a short circuit in one of the shops.

Two days ago, fire gutted the Ministry of Health headquarters in Kampala. Another fire gutted Kamik Fish Factory in Jinja Municipality on Monday.
