Alex Godfrey Ongom 24, a senior X-ray assistant at Abim hospital and Victor Akoko, a resident of Kichope village in Lira town are in trouble for attempting to con Bay port shillings 1.8 million. The duo was picked up today from Blue-valley guest house in Lira by plain clothed police detectives.

Henry Alyanga, Central North Spokesman says that the suspects were picked up for attempting to use fake documents to acquire a loan from Bay port. Bay-port-Uganda is a financial institution that offers loans to civil servants only. He says that the suspects forged documents in the names of George Omolo, a medical worker at Opopongu Health Center 2 in Nyakwae Sub County.

Alyanga says that the suspects were arrested on a tip off by Ely Buyinza, manager of Lira Bay port branch. Buyinza says that they realized that the document was forged when they tried to scrutinize it. In his statement, Ongom claims that he was requested by Omolo to process the loan on his behalf because he was sick.

Akoko confessed to police that he was promised shillings five hundred thousand by Ongom when the loan succeeds. He said that Ongom approached him to back his loan request. Akoko says that Ongom even paid shillings 50,000 to a loan officer at Bay-port to help him process the loan quickly a claim, Buyinza vehemently rejects. Alyanga says the duos will be charged with uttering false documents and forgery.
