Two Dead, 25 Injured in Arua Accident

Two people are confirmed dead and another 25 are admitted in hospital, following an accident on Saturday.

Donasiano Opwonya, the Arua traffic officer, identified the dead as Asiraf Isa, 33, a resident of Ocodri village, Terego County and Aida Ndaru, 50, a resident of Muni Ogai village, Oluko Sub-County.

The two died when a Fuso lorry reg. no. UAQ 595Q overturned at Etori village, ArivuSub-County in Arua district along the Arua-Nebbi road 20km from Arua town.

Opwonya, says the board of the vehicle broke off the frame and fell as the driver tried to  negotiate through a blind corner.

Police say the lorry was heading to Arua town from Panyamur fish market in Nebbi district and was carrying 35 traders.

Josephine Angucia, the North Western police spokesperson, says the injured were rushed to Arua and Kuluva hospitals.

The police spokesperson said police are hunting for the driver only identified as Acileis currently on the run.
