Simon Byamukama, the district Forest ranger in the forestry department and Suleiman Ayesiga the district senior accountant, were arrested on Wednesday afternoon by  officials from the IGG’s office in Kampala.

They were picked from their respective offices in Kyegegwa on the orders of the IGG, Raphael Baku to face charges of alleged embezzlement, cause of financial loss to the district, abuse of office and  false accounting in the public office.

The IGG’s report , a copy of which Uganda Radio Newtork has seen states that the two officers between March 1st 2010 and 31st December 2010 while serving in the district  allegedly swindled about 38 million shillings from the government coffers.

The money was revenue generated from forestry activities in Kyegegwa district local government.

The report further states that Byamukama and Ayesiga never deposited the money onto the district’s accounts and in addition they forged and released false receipts to forest users or pit sawyers.

The two officers are expected to appear before the Anti-corruption court this morning to answer the charges against them.
