Two security officials have been arrested for impersonating Rapid Response Unit and obtaining money by false pretence.

Frank Kamugisha, a police constable attached to Kabalye police barracks in Masindi and Patrick Ruhindi, a game ranger in Hoima, appeared before Hoima grade one magistrate court on Friday.

Richard Ndangwa, the grade one magistrate charged them with three counts of impersonation, theft and giving false information to a police officer.

Prosecution told court that on April 24, 2011while in Hoima town, the suspects stole 330, 000 shillings and Nokia mobile phone belonging to Sam Asiimwe, a businessman in   Hoima Town under the pretext that they were Rapid Response Unit (RRU) police officers on night patrol.

Court heard that on the next day, they went to  Hoima police station and falsely told corporal William Kajura,  who was on police duty at the counter that they were robbed of 400,000 shillings and a Nokia phone.

But police investigations found out that the duo were not rapid response unit officials and had robbed Asiimwe of 330,000 shillings.

The lies led to the arrest of the duo, who on interrogation confessed to providing false information to a police officer.

But when appearing before court, the duo denied the charges and applied for a court bail. They were however denied bail on grounds that they did not have sureties.

The grade one magistrate remanded them to Kiryatete government prison. They will re-appear in court on June 19th.
