Two army officers have been arrested in Busia for robbery.

Rtd. Lt Mohamed Mayanja and Staff Sgt. Noah Twesigye of Mbuya Military Barracks were arrested over the weekend from a guesthouse in Busia town.

The two army officers who arrived at the Uganda Red Cross Guesthouse in a vehicle registration number UAL 284Q were arrested after a tip off from the hotel staff.

Diana Nandaula the Eastern Uganda Police Spokesperson, says workers at the hotel became suspicious and alerted the police who swung into action and arrested the two army officers.

She says the police searched their vehicle and found two magazines and 48 rounds of live ammunitions. Other items recovered from the vehicle include hammers, ropes, pliers and a liquid for cleaning the gun.

The group was this afternoon handed over to the army in Mbale to be tried in a military court-martial.
