Two students of Mbarara Army Boarding Secondary School were on Friday killed in a motor accident while riding a bicycle to school at around 7:30 am along Mbarara-Masaka highway.

The South Western Police spokesperson Polly Namaye identified the deceased as Timothy Tayebwa and Ambrose Muhwezi both aged 17 years. The two were hit by a double cabin pick up truck registration number UAL 435U belonging to Integrated Community Based Initiatives ICOBI in Kabwohe, Sheema district.

Namaye attributed the accident to over-speeding and recklessness of the driver, identified as John Mwesigye. She said the students were knocked from behind as they turned to enter the gate of Makenke barracks, noting that a good driver would have been able to see them.

She said the driver has been arrested and the vehicle impounded, adding that when investigations are complete Mwesigye shall be produced in court.

This comes just a day after another accident involving two buses claimed two people and left 20 others injured on Ntungamo Rukungiri Highway.
