Two sub county officials in Kabarole district have been interdicted for allegedly swindling 9 million shillings.

The accused are Simon Rwekunisa, the former Rwimi sub county chief and Charles Kunihira, the sub county accountant.

Juma Nyende, the Kabarole Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) said the two officials are purported to have swindled 9 million shillings meant  for sub county projects.

He explained that 4 million shillings was meant for Community Driven Development (CDD) funds and 5 million shillings was the sub county revenue funds.

Nyende said the money was to implement the sub county projects for the financial year 2011-2012 but ended up being swindled by the two officials.

Richard Rwabuhinga, the Kabarole district chairman , said that the two officials were interdicted in December 2012 after audit reports indicated that the money had gone missing.

He explained that the CDD funds were to benefit the women groups in the sub county in supporting their income generating projects. Many of these projects have now stalled.

Rwabuhinga said that the interdiction of these officials is a first step. The district has sent auditors to assess the financial situation in all the sub counties so that the culprits can be prosecuted.

The chairman revealed that he had ordered the CAO to look for replacements for these two posts and act until recruitment is done to select suitable officials.

During the 2011 general campaigns, Rwabuhinga vowed to fight the rampant corruption among the district officials which he said result in poor service delivery.
