UCE Exams Commence, Candidates Enthusiastic

The 2016 Uganda Certificate of Examinations (UCE) examinations kicked off today with several students expressing enthusiasm of passing with high grades.

Preceded by briefing of the candidates on Friday, the exams kicked off this morning with Physics practical paper. Generally for Kampala schools located near paper collection centres, the exams started on time without irregularities as yet.

However, a number of fee-defaulting students of Kitante Hill School were visibly turned off at the school gate pending commitment from their guardians.

At City High SS, of the 202 students who registered for the UCE only 200 are confirmed sitting for the exams according to Nduhuura Clare, the head teacher of the school.

Nduhuura said the school has only allowed into the examination room students who have not cleared their dues after their parents committed themselves to paying the school within an agreed period of time. 

Meanwhile Robert Katoonya, the head teacher Kololo SS said the school has not encountered much fee defaulting. 

The Uganda National Examination Board (UNEB) revealed that 640,690 students registered for the Advanced Level, Ordinary Level and Primary Leaving examinations, with 488,224 at government aided schools and 152,466 at private schools.

Primary seven pupils are expected to start with briefing on November 1 and sit for the exams on November 2 and 3 respectively. According to the timetable which UNEB released in September, the exams will end on November 23 with optional subjects; Music and technical drawing.
