The Uganda Cranes have this afternoon gone top of Group B after a 4-0 win over Zanzibar in the on-going Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup.

After losing 2-0 to defending champions Kenya on Sunday, the Cranes responded positively with a better game approach to see off the 9-man Zanzibar team at the Hawassa Stadium, Ethiopia.

Skipper Farouk Miya netted a first half brace before Erisa Sekisambu and Ceaser Okuthi netted second half goals.

Miya gave the Cranes the lead after 10 minutes before he converted a penalty later after seven minutes. Zanzibar were reduced to ten men after goalkeeper Mwadini Ali Mwadini sent-off.

After recess the 13-time record winners of the regional tournament returned strongly and Sekisambu got his name on the score sheet after 48 minutes. Coach Sredojevic brought the fresh legs of Nelson Senkatuka and Frank Kalanda for Muzamir Mutyaba and Miya. Zanzibar's Yahya Mudathir was also sent-off for a bad challenge.

Striker Okuthi later increased Uganda's lead with a hard shot after 79 minutes. Moments later Okuthi thought he had got his name on the score sheet again only for the goal to be cancelled.

The Cranes will now face Burundi in their last group game on Saturday. On Wednesday four games will take centre stage with kenya facing Burundi, before Somalia battle hosts Ethiopia at the Hawassa Stadium. Guest side Malawi and Djibouti will also be in action in a Group C tie, while South Sudan face arch rivals Sudan later at the Bahir Dar Stadium.
