Coach Milutin 'Micho' Sredojevic believes Uganda Cranes will give a good account of themselves in the 2014 Africa Nations Championships in South Africa next year.
Micho told Uganda Radio Network yesterday before leaving for Addis Ababa, Ethiopia that although all the 16 teams are strong, he will be ready for any team placed in the same group with the Cranes.
Uganda qualified for a second CHAN event after stopping Taifa Stars of Tanzania on a 4-1 goal aggregate. The CHAN finals will be staged from January 11th to February 1st 2014.
Micho however, admitted that the tournament will be competitive and that the Cranes have to make thorough preparations.
The official draw for the tournament will be conducted at the CAF headquarters in Cairo, Egypt on Wednesday.
Micho explained that although he cannot name any team that he would prefer to have in the group, he will only strategize after the draw is made.
The Serbian tactician says the Cranes need to position themselves as favourites for the trophy and better their performance in the 2011 event in Sudan. The Cranes under Robert 'Bobby' Williamson failed to pick a single win against Sudan, Gabon and Algeria.
The coach explained that the 2013 Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup in Kenya and friendly games will help the team be in shape to challenge for the event.
The 16 teams that will compete in the third edition of the CHAN event include; South Africa, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Congo Brazzaville, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Gabon, Ghana, Libya, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Nigeria, Uganda, Zimbabwe and Mozambique. The event meant for home based players will take place in the venues of the 2010 World Cup including Cape Town Stadium, Athlone Stadium, Free State Stadium and Peter Mokaba Stadium.
