Uganda has finally applied to host the 2017 International Cricket Board (ICC) World Cricket League Division 3.

"We sent in our bid last week to host this big world event. We sent in all our documentation and security plans which is very paramount in the bidding process," Justine Ligyalingi, Chief Executive Officer of the Uganda Cricket Association (UCA) confirmed to URN.

Ligyalingi said having hosted several International events, Uganda is ready and capable of hosting the ICC World Cricket League Division 3 in February next year.

The event will attract six nations with the best two qualifying for Division 2. The countries that will take part include; Uganda, Singapore, Malaysia, Canada and two other qualifiers from Division 4.

In 2014 Uganda won the bid to host the same tournament, but the global governing body stopped the event from taking place in Kampala because of security concerns  in Uganda.

The decision by the ICC came since Uganda was on high alert over fears of retaliatory attacks by Somalia's Al-Qaeda-affiliated Shebab rebels. Uganda is a key contributor of troops to the African Union force fighting the Shebab.
